What Is the ITIL® Managing Professional Transition (Version 5)?

ITIL® Managing Professional Transition (Version 5) is a transition module designed for candidates who hold either the ITIL 4 Managing Professional, ITIL 4 Master or ITIL v3 Expert designation. It provides a fast-track route for experienced ITIL professionals to transition to ITIL (Version 5) without completing all modules individually.

This intensive 5-day training consolidates key concepts from three ITIL (Version 5) modules:
  • ITIL Product (Version 5) — guidance for organizations involved in the creation and continual improvement of digital products across the digital product and service lifecycle
  • ITIL Service (Version 5) — how organizations design, build, deliver, support, and continually improve services to create value for stakeholders
  • ITIL Experience (Version 5) — integrating human experience into the design and delivery of digital products and services, recognizing that how services are perceived, trusted, and engaged with directly influences the value they create
  • The training also covers ITIL Transformation concepts, as the ITIL® Transformation (Version 5) exam is required alongside the MPT exam to achieve the full ITIL Managing Professional (Version 5) designation.

How Does the Transition Work?

The Managing Professional Transition requires completing one training programme and passing two separate exams:
Training: 5-day intensive programme covering Product, Service, Experience, Transformation, AI, and framework integration

Exam 1 — Product, Service and Experience:

  • Exam body: PeopleCert
  • Duration: 120 minutes (non-native English speakers receive an additional 25% extra time, i.e. 150 minutes)
  • Format: Multiple-choice, open book (ITIL Product, Service, and Experience Official Books)
  • Number of Questions: 60
  • Passing Score: 70%
  • Bloom Levels: BL 1, 2, 3 and 4 (recall, understand, apply, analyse)
  • Exam format: Scenario-based (ITIL Car Rental Scenario) + Experience section
  • Delivery Options: Online proctored exam (available anytime, anywhere through PeopleCert)

Exam 2 — Transformation:

  • Exam body: PeopleCert

Prerequisites

  • ITIL® 4 Managing Professional, ITIL 4 Master or ITILv3 Expert certification is required to take the exams.
  • Candidates must also complete accredited training from an Accredited Training Organization (ATO) or via accredited eLearning before sitting the exam.

What is the ITIL® Managing Professional Transition (Version 5)?

How many exams are required for ITIL MPT?

Two exams are required. Exam 1 covers Product, Service, and Experience (60 questions, 120 minutes). Exam 2 covers Transformation (40 questions, 90 minutes). Both are open book with a 70% pass mark.

Are the ITIL MPT exams open book?

Yes. For Exam 1, you may use the official ITIL Product, Service, and Experience eBooks. For Exam 2, you may use the official Transformation eBook and Scenario Booklet. Both exams are scenario-based.

What designation do I achieve after passing both exams?

Upon passing both exams, you achieve the ITIL Managing Professional (Version 5) designation.

What if I don't hold ITIL 4 Managing Professional, ITIL 4 Master, or ITIL v3 Expert?

If you don't meet the prerequisites, you should complete the individual ITIL (Version 5) modules instead: Experience, Product, Service, and Transformation. Start with ITIL Foundation (Version 5) if you haven't already.

Does the certification expire?

All PeopleCert Global Best Practice certifications need to be renewed after 3 years. You can renew by passing any ITIL exam or by collecting CPD points through PeopleCert Plus Membership.

When will the eLearning be available?

Pre-orders are open now — course access will be activated automatically on the release date.

How long will I have access to the eLearning?

You'll have 12 months of access to the eLearning platform from the date of activation.

Can I upgrade from eLearning to Live Training?

Yes. You can upgrade to the Live Instructor-Led Training anytime by paying the difference in course fees (before your exam voucher is issued).
