 What Is PRINCE2 Risk Management Practitioner?

PRINCE2 Risk Management Practitioner (Version 4), M_o_R 4 is the certification in the PRINCE2 Risk Management scheme, widely known as M_o_R, which stands for Management of Risk. It gives you a practical, universally applicable approach to managing risk across the different levels of an organisation: strategic, programme, project, and operational.


The course is built around the M_o_R 4 integrated framework. You learn the principles that guide good risk management, the perspectives that let decision-makers see risk from different angles, and the process cycle that turns risk thinking into action. The guidance is ISO-aligned, so it applies across industries and recognised global standards.


PRINCE2 Risk Management is developed and administered by PeopleCert. AGILEPM HUB offers this certification as self-paced eLearning, with the official eBook and an exam voucher included.


Unlike most PRINCE2 modules, Risk Management has no separate Foundation level. The Practitioner certification on its own earns the PRINCE2 Risk Manager designation. The M_o_R name still appears on certificates and badges during the current transition, and is being phased out as the scheme moves fully to the PRINCE2 Risk Management name.

Where Does PRINCE2 Risk Management Practitioner Fit in the PRINCE2 Certification Pathway?

PRINCE2 Risk Management Practitioner is a single-module designation. There is no Foundation level, so completing the Practitioner certification earns you the PRINCE2 Risk Manager designation in one step.


There are no prerequisites, so you can take this module at any career stage. It complements the other PRINCE2 streams well, since risk management runs through projects, programmes, and portfolios.


PRINCE2 Risk Manager is one of six designations in the wider PRINCE2 framework, alongside PRINCE2 Project Manager, Agile Expert, Programme Manager, Portfolio Manager, and PMO Manager. Holding all six leads to PRINCE2 Master.

Certification Renewal

All PeopleCert Global Best Practice certifications need to be renewed every 3 years. You have two options to keep your certification current:

Option A — Pass any PRINCE2® exam
  • Taking and passing any PRINCE2® exam before your renewal date extends the validity of all your PRINCE2® certifications for another three years.
Option B — Collect CPD points with PeopleCert Plus Membership
  • With an active PeopleCert Plus subscription, you can renew by logging at least 20 Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points per year for 3 consecutive years. PeopleCert Plus also gives you access to industry insights, emerging trends, and best practices to stay current in your field.

Prerequisites

What is the difference between M_o_R and PRINCE2 Risk Management?

They are the same scheme. M_o_R, which stands for Management of Risk, is the long-standing name and still appears on certificates and badges. PeopleCert is moving the scheme to the PRINCE2 Risk Management name, so you may see both during the transition.

Are there any prerequisites?

No. There are no prerequisites. The module is open to all, with no prior certification required.

Is there a Foundation level?

No. PRINCE2 Risk Management has no separate Foundation level. The Practitioner certification on its own earns the PRINCE2 Risk Manager designation.

What does the exam involve?

The exam is 65 multiple choice questions over 135 minutes. It is open book, and the pass mark is 50%, which is 33 correct answers. It is taken online with proctoring, and a voucher is included with your course.

What is included when I enrol? 

Enrolment includes the official eBook, learner resources, around 10 to 12 hours of self-paced interactive content, and an online proctored exam voucher.

Which designation does PRINCE2 Risk Management Practitioner lead to?

It earns the PRINCE2 Risk Manager designation in a single step, since there is no Foundation level to complete first.
