Is ITIL® Product (Version 5) an entry-level certification?

No. ITIL® Product (Version 5) is an advanced module. You must hold either ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) or ITIL 4 Foundation certification before enrolling.

Who should attend ITIL® Product (Version 5) training?

This course is ideal for IT professionals, product managers, product owners, service managers, enterprise architects, team leaders, consultants, and anyone focused on how digital products are created and managed across the full lifecycle. It is also a key step toward the ITIL Managing Professional designation.

How is the ITIL® Product (Version 5) exam conducted?

The exam is delivered by PeopleCert as an online proctored, closed-book exam. It consists of 40 multiple-choice questions with a duration of 90 minutes. Non-native English speakers receive an additional 25% time (113 minutes). The official passing score is defined by PeopleCert.

What is the prerequisite for this course?

ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) or ITIL 4 Foundation certification is required. Candidates must also complete accredited training from a PeopleCert Accredited Training Organization (ATO) or accredited eLearning before sitting the exam.

Does the ITIL® Product certification expire?

All PeopleCert Global Best Practice certifications are valid for three years. Certifications can be renewed by passing any ITIL® exam, which extends all ITIL certifications for three years, or by collecting CPD points through PeopleCert Plus Membership.

ITIL® AI Governance is the only extension module in the ITIL (Version 5) qualification scheme. It provides practical, scenario-driven guidance for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and improving AI governance across organizations of any size and industry.

Unlike other ITIL (Version 5) modules, AI Governance has no prerequisite. It is designed for a broad and diverse market seeking to strengthen the governance of AI capabilities across their organization. AI is applicable across all industries and relevant to every role, as it impacts business activities at operational, tactical, and strategic levels.

The course introduces three core models: the ITIL AI Governance Model, the ITIL AI Capability Model (6C) (Creation, Curation, Clarification, Cognition, Communication, Coordination), and the ITIL AI Governance Improvement Model with its four steps (Assess, Design, Implement, Maintain). You'll learn to identify AI risks, apply ethical principles and countermeasures, design governance controls, manage Shadow AI, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

The course also covers how AI governance integrates with complementary frameworks including ITIL, PRINCE2, and DevOps — ensuring governance operates within the broader governance ecosystem that already manages products, services, projects, risks, and improvement.

ITIL® AI Governance (Version 5) is an extension module, it sits outside the three main designation streams (Practice Manager, Managing Professional, Strategic Leader) and is not required for any ITIL designation.
