What Is the ITIL® Foundation Bridge (Version 5)?

The ITIL® Foundation Bridge (Version 5) is a short, focused course designed exclusively for professionals who already hold ITIL 4 Foundation. Rather than repeating the full Foundation curriculum, the Bridge covers only the key enhancements and updated concepts introduced in ITIL® (Version 5).

This course focuses on:
  • Key updates introduced in ITIL (Version 5)
  • The shift to Digital Product and Service Management
  • Updated lifecycle and value chain positioning
  • Governance enhancements
  • Sustainability as part of service quality
  • AI integration and the ITIL AI Capability Model

Upon passing the 30-minute Bridge exam, you receive the official ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) certificate issued by PeopleCert — and all your existing ITIL certifications are renewed for three years.
This makes the Bridge one of the fastest and most cost-effective pathways to stay current with ITIL and renew your credentials.

Is the Bridge Mandatory?

No. The ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) Bridge is optional.


ITIL 4 Foundation remains a fully valid prerequisite for all ITIL® (Version 5) advanced modules. You can progress directly into ITIL® (Version 5) advanced certifications without taking the Bridge.


However, the Bridge is worth considering if you want to:

 • Formally upgrade your certification to ITIL® Foundation (Version 5)

 • Understand the key changes introduced in Version 5 before progressing further

 • Renew all your existing ITIL certifications for 3 years through a single, short exam

All PeopleCert ITIL certifications are valid for three years. Passing the ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) Bridge exam renews all your existing ITIL certifications for another three years, in line with PeopleCert's certification policy.

This applies to all ITIL certifications you currently hold — Foundation, Practice Manager modules, Managing Professional, Strategic Leader, or any combination.
The Bridge is the most time-efficient certification renewal pathway available.

Don't hold ITIL 4 Foundation?

The Bridge requires an existing ITIL 4 Foundation certificate. If you are new to ITIL or do not hold ITIL 4 Foundation, you should enroll in the full ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) course instead.

What is the ITIL® Foundation Bridge (Version 5)?

The ITIL® Foundation Bridge (Version 5) is a short delta course for ITIL 4 Foundation holders that covers only the key updates introduced in ITIL® (Version 5). It includes a 30-minute exam and, upon passing, awards the official ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) certificate.

Is the ITIL® Foundation Bridge (Version 5) mandatory?

No. ITIL 4 Foundation remains a fully valid prerequisite for all ITIL® (Version 5) advanced modules. The Bridge is optional and designed for professionals who want a quick orientation to the changes and want to formally upgrade their certification.

What is the difference between the Bridge and the full ITIL® Foundation (Version 5)?

The full ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) course covers the entire Foundation curriculum from scratch and is designed for professionals new to ITIL or those without ITIL 4 Foundation. The Bridge covers only the delta — the changes introduced in Version 5 — and requires ITIL 4 Foundation as a prerequisite.

Does passing the Bridge exam renew my existing ITIL certifications?

Yes. Passing any ITIL® (Version 5) certification exam, including the Bridge, renews all your existing ITIL certifications for three years.

Do I get the same certificate as the full Foundation?

Yes. Upon passing the Bridge exam, you receive the official ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) certificate issued by PeopleCert — the same certificate awarded to those who complete the full Foundation course.

Can I take ITIL® (Version 5) advanced modules without the Bridge?

Yes. ITIL 4 Foundation holders can progress directly into ITIL® (Version 5) advanced modules (Experience, Product, Service, Transformation, Strategy) without taking the Bridge.

Certification Renewal

All PeopleCert Global Best Practice certifications, including ITIL® Foundation (Version 5), need to be renewed every 3 years. You have two options to keep your certification current:

Option A — Pass any ITIL® exam
  • Taking and passing any ITIL® exam before your renewal date extends the validity of all your ITIL® certifications for another three years.
Option B — Collect CPD points with PeopleCert Plus Membership
  • With an active PeopleCert Plus subscription, you can renew by logging at least 20 Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points per year for 3 consecutive years. PeopleCert Plus also gives you access to industry insights, emerging trends, and best practices to stay current in your field.

Prerequisites

ITIL 4 Foundation certificate is required to enroll in the Bridge course and take the Bridge exam.
If you do not hold ITIL 4 Foundation, you should enroll in the full ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) course instead.

The official PeopleCert ITIL® Foundation Bridge (Version 5) exam is online proctored (available anytime, anywhere), with 20 multiple-choice questions, 30 minutes duration (non-native English speakers receive additional time), closed-book, and a passing score of 13/20 (65%).

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes. Upon passing the Bridge exam, you receive the official ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) certificate issued by PeopleCert — the same certificate awarded to those who complete the full Foundation course.

How long will I have access to the eLearning?

You'll have 12 months of access to the eLearning platform from the date of activation.

Can I upgrade from eLearning to Live Training?

Yes. You can upgrade to the Live Instructor-Led Training anytime by paying the difference in course fees (before your exam voucher is issued).

Can I reschedule my live training date?

Yes, you can reschedule or change your training cohort before your exam voucher is issued. Once the voucher is issued, changes are no longer possible.
